burnt bathroom countertop..
l was using a solder melting iron and l dropped quite alot of iron onto the
counter..there was stains on some areas which l already rubbed off..but one
part looks like the top layer is completely removed..likei can see the wood
under the top layer.. are there anyway to replace that or cover it
with any kind of material without major cunstruction?? the material
of the counter is some kind of hard wood.
Unless you have a maple butcher block counter top, most counter
tops with any type of laminate (formica), is manufactured with particle
board core material, with the formica glued atop the particle board.
Short of replacing the entire counter top, formica cannot be effectively
repaired. Paint over the damage will not last, as most paints will not
adhere to formica for long. If it is a wooden butcherblock counter top,
you can sand the area, to remove the burned areas, but that will leave a ''wallow'' that will stand out worse that the burn. No matter what, next time you attempt to solder anything on a counter top, protect it!
I don't know what material the top is made of but sounds like
formica. Depending on the color, you can get some appliance touch up
paint to touch it up. It will mask the area but won't get rid of it
totally.
